Re: '02 Week 3 Predictions
It's amazing to see how much things have changed in classic league due to kids leaving for PA. Teams who didn't have a chance the last 2 years are now the teams to beat. Looks like an interesting year.

Big difference when the best players move on to PreAcademy. Too bad the game takes a big hit. You don't see that much possession in the games anymore. Andromeda seems to be the only team doing it right.

I totally agree.
You take 9 kids from DTS and place them on PA.
And a few from Solar, FCD's Pino & Gonclaves, and as much as some folks want to deny it, the '02 group is watered-down.
DTS, Pino, Gonclaves, LP Rush, Andromeda (formerly DT Thornber) & Solar Red have been challenging each other for years!
Now, Andromeda and LP Rush are reaping the benefits of the PA jump, with their only true challenge being Solar Red, who I still feel just had an off day (not taking anything away from Andromeda winning, though).

Re: '02 Week 3 Predictions
Just keep in mind...Not all of the best players play for teams that have a PA team. So yes, the best players from some dominate teams lose out more than others...but that's not to say all of the "best" players moved to PA. Definitely changes things though.
Funny how LP Owen is left out of the conversation even though they tied or beat every team in spring with the exception of DTS and placed higher overall than some. Yes...I am a homer, but I do think the boys are underrated.

LP Owens would not be considered a top team. Where did they end up last year in classic league? How are they this year? Their style of play is score and defend the rest of the 60 mins. It's not the kids fault, it's their coach for not teaching them correctly.

Re: '02 Week 3 Predictions
5th... Ahead of Thornber, LP Rush, Aysses, and the 2 relegated teams. 1 point behind Pino and 3 behind Solar Red (which had 1 more loss than LP Owen).
As far as coach not teaching them correctly. Not sure what you're basing that on? The fact that you don't like the way LP Owen played against Solar doesn't mean they aren't coached "correctly" in practice. I have mentioned on other threads in the past that our team positions and plays differently depending on the opponent (matchups). Yes, I am well aware of what a certain Stricker parent thinks of our game...I heard it being complained about loudly on the sideline many times. Let me think...Score then defend? Hrmm... Maybe that isn't "being taught correctly" to some. But we can agree to disagree.
Watch them this year. You might be surprised now that we have nearly the entire team back.
Honestly, I think comes to matchups more than anything. There are teams that we consistently tie that get beat badly by a team we consistently beat. Vice versa. The kids are all pretty skilled in this league (some more than others for sure), but all can compete. Match ups (to me) is the difference in many of these games. Some of the top teams from last year couldn't beat the teams that were relegated. It was interesting to see play out.
Take care.

Re: '02 Week 3 Predictions
Apologies sir.
I didn't intentionally leave out LP Owen.
They're good.
The LP Rush vs. LP Owen game was closer than the resulting score. (Wasn't stalking, just saw the game).
So yes, LP Owen will make some noise this season.
When The Big Fella gets healthy, there will be less goals scored on LP Owen.

Re: '02 Week 3 Predictions
Yes good players left for PA but other good players still remained. This season gives opportunities for other teams and other players to step up. For this reason the season should be a good one. I still think that there isn't a clear cut winner as it was in previous years in this age group.

I agree. And I know that there are some parents that don't allow their kids to play PA, NPL, etc even if asked due to the travel. Soccer isn't everything to many parents regardless of talent level (gasp!). LOL
We're going to attempt NPL this year...Hopefully, the travel and cost (plus, athletics at school, band, church, etc) doesn't sour the experience.

I would agree with just4kicks. The ball stays up in the air then on the ground for most of the games. I don't see how that is player development.

Yep.
Either Andromeda or LP Rush will take this age group.

And forget DIII, they are playing for fun I guess. Seems like no one cares about DIII in the 02 group.

Re: '02 Week 3 Predictions
As a DIII parent, I would love to see DIII predictions. I've asked for them before. Someone took a stab at it Week 1 but made a good point that there are only 4 teams remaining in DIII that were in CL last year. Makes it tough.
I've seen what happens to newbies who post predictions on here so you won't catch me throwing them out. lol

Another very interesting week of results. First time to play a late night game at Moneygram. I was very surprised at how good the lighting was. The weather was super nice too.

Re: '02 Week 3 Predictions
Everybody seemed pretty certain that Andro was going to beat LP Owen. Just looking at the score, one would think it was pretty evenly matched. Any reports on the game?

Re: '02 Week 3 Predictions
Similar to all of our matches with them so far. They beat us in fall. We beat them in spring. Guess it was time for a tie. Lol
Very even game with not a lot of scoring chances. LP Owen had a few more scoring opportunities (especially later in the game) but Andro's defense was quite good.
