Re: 97B 2010-2011 PPL Teams
Thanks for the info soccermom!
It's nice to see seven new teams this season. Do you know how many teams PPL will place in Division 1? Based on the results from last year, the seeding in the QT of the eight returning teams that did not receive a bye will be:
1. Nationals
2. Texas Xtreme
3. Aces
4. Valencia
5. Nationals FC
6. FCD White
7. HPSA Scots
8. Texas Blitz
Subtracting the two byes, there should be 15 teams in the QT. I'm interested to see how the QT will be structured as far as number of games and configuration of the brackets. Only two more weeks!

Brackets and schedules are out for the QT.
Mild surprise that Nationals are returning to the league as the highest-ranked team, record wise, that did not receive a bye, but are not participating in the QT. I can only guess that they lost a large number of their top players.
Top seeds are:
Bracket A - Texas Xtreme
Bracket B - Aces
Bracket C - Valencia
The toughest bracket is hard to determine with so many new teams. I'll venture a wild guess that Bracket A is the toughest, with the overall top-seeded Texas Xtreme, Nationals FC (who dominated their group in the Spring after dropping down from D1 to D2) and the two unknown teams, CDI East Gold and Tiapehuala. CDI is known for fielding tough, competitive teams (see the CDI version from two years ago that advanced from PPL to Classic D3). Could Tiapehuala be this year's Monterrey, coming out of nowhere to dominate the league?
Bracket C should also be very competitive between Valencia, a retooled FCD White, a brand-new Longhorns team and the entry from Wichita Falls, which tends to produce some strong teams as well.
Bracket B is led by Aces and also includes Texas Blitz, who struggled mightily last season. It also has new teams Milan FC and Plano United, two more unknown quantities.
It will be interesting to see how many teams will be placed into D1 besides the two TFC teams. How many of the 12 teams in the QT will qualify for D1? My guess is that the top 2 from each bracket will go, with maybe 1 or 2 other teams with the next most points, depending on whether Plano decides to put 9 or 10 teams in D1. Or maybe they keep D1 to 8 teams, taking only the six teams finishing first or second in their bracket, and leaving 9 teams in D2. Do any managers or coaches have the details on this?
I hope we get a small break in the weather for the QT, although Plano did everyone a favor by playing just two games on Saturday and one on Sunday, with most of the teams getting a nice long break in between the Saturday games. Good luck to all, and post your predictions!

Re: 97B 2010-2011 PPL Teams
I will not make any predictions but have heard rumors that maybe there is a pretty good team from recreation or hispanic league in the mix. This could be rumor but usually someone shows up that's a surprise in plano league. Should be a fun year with good competition and great weekly write ups by Hoff1032.

The Longhorns team isn't totally brand new - it's my understanding that they're a '98 team from last year that added some '97's to the mix and are playing up. According to last year's standings, they were middle of the pack division 2. The Longhorns team you're thinking of didn't make.

Interesting. I WAS thinking of the Lonhorns team you thought I was thinking of, the one that had a couple of remaining players from your AYSES/TLSC/TFC team. When you say middle of the pack D2, I assume that's D2 Plano?

Yea, D2 Plano...although that team was listed last year as Longhorns White and now they're Orange...

Is the WF Xpress team in the QT the same team that played in APL last season, or is it a new incarnation?

Re: 97B 2010-2011 PPL Teams
Thanks so much soccermom97b. That means the top 2 from each of the three brackets, plus the two third place teams with the most points, will advance to D1 with the two TFC teams that received byes. Only four teams in the QT won't make it, and D2 will consist of seven teams. Good luck to everyone next weekend!
