Classic League Challenge Tournament?
I noticed the challenge tournament is in May 26 -June 4 this year. How does this work with the current contract? Do players get to tryout for new teams before that?

"Do players get to tryout for new teams before that?" For the vast majority of players, the answer is "no".
Existing teams are to participate in the challenge tournament. Players not rostered to a challenge team cannot participate.
It is possible to try out for and join a challenge team for the tournament, but only if the player is a free agent - players unsigned for the current soccer year or possessing a full release. Player additions must be made before the tournament's roster freeze date April 15.
For everyone else, players are still under contract until June 30, and the open practices May 14 - June 30 are for contracts beginning July 1. Players may freely practice with any team during this time, including teams that are participating in the challenge tournament, but cannot play in the tournament.
If your player is not currently on a team with a bye for next year, or is on a team that fails in the challenge tournament, he can always try out ( i.e. practice with a team in hopes of officially trying out and signing in July ) for a team, who holds or wins a bye, during the open practice period.

The BYE positions are for teams that currently are in classic league, and aren't asked to challenge for their spot.
In Division 2 at U11 and U12 the bottom 6 teams in Division 2 are asked to challenge.
From U13-U18 the bottom 6 from Division 3 challenge for their positions.
So every team above those bottom 6 spots in the lowest division will be BYE's held by the current teams/clubs.
So for every team in Arlington and Plano or wherever else, they have 6 openings to try and qualify for.
This being said for those looking to challenge in, be aware that DA will take 2 teams of kids from each DA club. Solar, FCD, Texans. So there will be spots to be filled at those clubs up and down the line.
