Many of you already know, for those that do not, there is a smart-phone app for the Dallas Cup on iTunes allowing users to view schedules, results and standings. A neat feature allows users to click to vote on specific games to forecast a draw or a win by either team. After a user votes, a percentage appears.

Here is the Dallas Cup website link to the same U16 information...

The four local teams have earned good results.

BRACKET C, Group of Death
Sporting United has looked very impressive. They seem to have up to five guest players. Their win over the top ranked team from Florida was solid. Coach Videla has prepared the team very well. They will match up with another 2-0 team, West Coast FC Armour from California. The winner will win the group. The runner-up may be one of the wildcard teams.

BRACKET A
Solar, wow, they are on a roll. Smashing the team from Denmark then taking an emphatic win over the famed Fullerton Rangers from California. They look to win their group with an upcoming match with New York.

BRACKET D
FC Dallas U15 Academy is smashing their way through Bracket D with 9 goals. Only Rio Rapids is standing in their way.

BRACKET B
FC Dallas 01 Premier is having a tougher time. Encountering teams playing defensive 4-5-1 formations. Albion from California hasn't played yet. The group winner will be determined Thursday when Albion and FCD play their group match.

BRACKET F
Rayados from Mexico are stumbling. I'm surprised. It is what it is. The teams from California and Colorado will be battling for the group win.

BRACKET A
No change. Solar Fagen is still in charge of their destiny.

BRACKET B
Uuuuf. Albion put on a show in their first match. TSF missed on several excellent opportunities. Albion did not. Right off the bat, Albion takes 3 emphatic points.
Tomorrow Albion and FCD Premier face off. These are two VERY GOOD squads. The winner takes the group.
FCD, thus far, has been faced with teams parking the mega-buses against them.
Wednesday, two similar teams will look in the mirror.
Expect a blistering fast match with a lot of counter attacks. The aggressor team with the deepest bench to take the game. Expect the winner of this game to make a run at the Final.
6pm MoneyGram #6

BRACKET C
Game of the Day! 8pm, MoneyGram #9
Sporting United vs. West Coast FC Armour.
Rumor is they have 8 guest players, not 5. Plus the Mexican international. They are the real deal.
If you want to see fire works, come watch this match!
The winner of this match will also make a run at the Final.
The runner up will likely be a Wild Card so they aren't out of the picture.

BRACKET D
FCD Academy to wrap up the group.
Scuttlebutt says FCD is VERY worried about Sporting United and FCD Premier.
I say, don't worry, be happy. Albion, West Coast and Dynamo will be a handful too.

BRACKET E
Houston Dynamo SHOULD wrap up the group tomorrow with a win over West Side Alliance from Oklahoma. The big boys from OK will not be a push over. They play a very physical and punishing game. 12pm MoneyGram #8 is the place to be.

BRACKET F
My pre-tournament favorite, Rayados from Monterrey, Mexico are having a melt-down. They are out.
This group is still wide-open.
The Colorado boys, FC Boulder can take the group with a win. But if they tie or lose against a solid  La Esperanza, "The Hope", all bets are off.  10am  MoneyGram #5 is the deciding match.

International teams are not likely to make it out of group play.

Recommended U16 schedule (2001 born boys, 15/16 years old) ....
10am, MoneyGram #5... FC Boulder v La Esperanza (California vs. Colorado)
12pm, MoneyGram #8... Houston Dynamo v West Side Alliance (Oklahoma vs. Texas)
2pm Long Lunch and catch a lot of other EXCITING group matches at MoneyGram
HEAVY WEIGHT CARD
4pm, MoneyGram #6... Rio Rapids vs. FCD U15 Academy
6pm, MoneyGram #6...Albion vs FCD Premier (California vs. Texas)
8pm, MoneyGram #9...MATCH OF THE DAY... Sporting United vs West Coast FC Armour (California vs. Texas)

Is the player that was on FCD Premiere that guest played for Sporting United in the qualifying tournament playing for one of those teams?

He is a one man show and could single handedly win a game for one of those teams. He beat the FCD U15 PA team pretty much by himself when guest playing for Sporting United. If he is on Premiere or Sporting United I give which ever team he is on the spot of favorite to win the title.

Sporting has a player with whom my son played with in prior years that can change a game in a heartbeat. He has been called up the Mexico National team twice I believe, and was listed in this years DC preview as a top 10 player to watch in this tourney. If they added another kid better than him...I'll take Sporting for a 1,000.

BRACKET A
Fagen's boys sweep the group with a perfect 3-0 record and a 7 goal difference.
An outstanding result.
Fullerton Rangers earn 6 points and a possible wild-card berth.

BRACKET B
Albion SC knocked out FCD Premier with a PK goal. They will take the group after today. They have six points with no team able to match their point total.
FCD Premier eliminated in-spite of allowing only a single goal in three matches.

BRACKET C
Sporting United continues their exciting run. Their crowd last night was SUPER impressive. Wow.
They are playing inspired and it wouldn't surprise me if they reach the final.
West Coast could still make it as a wild-card. TBD.

BRACKET D
FCD Academy is scoring buckets of goals. They are looking unbeatable.

BRACKET E
Houston Dynamo and Pipeline; the group winner may be decided by tie breakers.
If both finish with 7 points, then one of the wild-cards will likely come from this group.

BRACKET F
FC Boulder from Colorado has been quietly winning their group that included a pre-tournament favorite. They could be a Cinderella story.

Saw the end of the FCD Premiere Game and Albion. Looked like FCD had a PK to tie it up and the Albion Keeper made a great save. Didn't see the superstar forward on FCD Premiere.

Calling this one for Sporting United as DC champs.

Dallas Cup U16 ('01) Empty Re: Dallas Cup U16 ('01)

Post by PG-Boy 4/17/2017, 3:01 pm

This was an exciting edition of the Dallas Cup.

MoneyGram was dressed-up for the occasion with sponsorship and team banners everywhere. The fields were immaculate. The organizers were excellently prepared.

FCD Academy redeemed in grand style the Bobby Rhine tournament by sweeping aside all opponents from start to finish. Congratulations to the boys. In the Final, destroying an FC Boulder 01 team that didn't seem to have answers to playing on an expansive field on an FCD team hogging possession. Coach Suarez appeared to have reversed his line-up, holding his primary starters in reserve. In the second half he unleashed his star players on the exhausted Boulder boys.

Solar and Sporting can hold their heads high. They won their groups, no easy feat in the Dallas Cup. The local teams represented NTX very well.

Sporting had an emotional win against West Coast on Wednesday, then had to wait until Friday morning to play Finalist, FC Boulder. The loud Sporting fans seemed to have inspired the Coloradans instead of intimidating them. How about FC Boulder? They followed up the big win with a bigger win over Albion SC in the semi-final.

Solar had a tight match with West Coast. So close. A victory for Solar would've matched them up against FCD Academy in the semifinal.

FCD Premier had to run the gauntlet of teams playing appalling 4-5-1 formations against them. The "Parking the Bus" defense. With opponents rarely crossing the midfield line to challenge the FCD defense. The only goal allowed was a PK in three matches. No excuses, FCD had opportunities to win all three games. In the game against Albion, they played the last sixty minutes a player short after receiving a red card. Regardless of the handicap, they dominated possession, corner kicks, and shots on goal. FCD played as if they had the man advantage. But it was not to be. The Albion defense held.

Houston Dynamo was expelled for playing a suspended kid. They lost their $500 protest fee when they contested the issue. West Side Alliance advanced in their stead. Only to be thoroughly thrashed by FCD Academy. Had Houston Dynamo advanced the QF and SF would've had different paths for the teams. Houston was playing well.

Watching the matches, the coaches came prepared with tactical plans. The substitution set-up didn't allow for players to leave and return. Most games were low scoring. FCD Academy was in a class by itself. They deserved the boot and ball trophy.
