98 Longhorns fix a game? Empty 98 Longhorns fix a game?

Post by Freeatlast 10/10/2010, 7:12 pm

Top of 98 D2 Longhorns Gold tie cellar-dwelling D2 Longhorns Orange 1-1? Had to be a fix. The club must have been giving the Orange a point to try and keep them from relegation. Next time out Gold beats middle of the pack HUFC 6-0. No way Orange could have tied them if they played it straight up.

I love a good conspiracy as much as the next person, but that would be an extremely foolish move if they did. Gold would be in first place if they had won, are in 3rd currently because of the tie. Those are 2 points they are going to need if they want to move up to D1 next year.

I would probably liken it more to little brother syndrome. Orange is the second fiddle or little brother to Gold in that club. They probably treated that game like their World Cup, playing at an intensity that Gold, as the big brother, just doesn't feel. Happens all the time.

Oh yeah. That would work really well on our team "Guys lets forfeit first place so that team does not get relagated." TRY to think things through before making accusations.

So how DID the Orange manage a tie? scratch the Gold is apparently on a par with Pumas and Tejanos who just dropped from D1. Guess the point starved Orange just suddenly jelled for a day.

98 Longhorns fix a game? Empty Any given Saturday

Post by mom98b2x99b 10/10/2010, 10:36 pm

On any given Saturday, boys have an off day. Combine that with the orange team wanting a win, and you have a "fixed" game.

Teams from the same club, weather in D1, D2 or D3, are just as big a rivals as anyone else.
Look at the Solar teams, TFC, FCD a few yrs back .. The usually 'weaker' teams step it up when playing against the better team within the club.
Wasn't there some talk about Longhorns Gold and Ayses eventually merging or some such?

Longhorns and Ayses did merge, but they have broke apart now. The Ayses group is again under the Ayses Flag adn the longhorns teams are under the longhorns flag. I understand the transfers have gone through with Classic league and it is just a matter of time before the name changes with Classic.

Possibly with all the practice against them they figured out to put 4 players on #13 and take away all the scoring threat.

Everyone wants to win. I can't imagine a club or coach could convince the players to "fix" a game. It was probably just an off day. Every team has them. I would call it a fluke not a fix.

Both teams will be AYSES teams going forward and both coaches are very competitive. My guess it was big brother little brother match with alot of emotion.

Moron? Hey, if you're giving your money to the Longhorns or Ayses or whatever they are, you're the moron. Guess the Longhorns or Ayses or whatever they are Orange made their big move for the year and got a tie with the Pumas. They're still in line for relegation. By the way, how did that clever move to the Longhorns work out? Do you like that great new Ayses soccer complex?

98 Longhorns fix a game? Empty Re: 98 Longhorns fix a game?

There are 4 kinds of teams:
1) Very athletic & very skilled/good touch in the game (notice I said "in the game" and not practice drills--of which there are none in NTx in this age group)
2) Very athletic and no skills (most top teams fit this category)
3) Not so athletic and not skilled
4) Not so athletic and very skilled
....and then add the technical coaching, players' true knowlege of how to play the game, injuries, physical maturity/immaturity to the mix and vuahla......inconsistency.

The last 3 types of teams make for inconsistency, which is what you have in most of the divisions to varying degrees. That's why you can have such upsets year after year...none of this conspiracy nonsense.....watch teams play day-in and day-out and you can see what I'm talking about.

What a comeback.

Actually, I heard the team is going to change their name back to AYSES in order to stay one step ahead of the Classic League Board. It seems they are in a lot of trouble because of all of their game fixing so the hope is that the name change will confuse the board.

Why don't you start a thread about it?
