Family Soccer Experience
Have any parents played soccer previously or currently play? Or does your BB have older/younger siblings who play?

Re: Family Soccer Experience
Love to see that parents can appreciate what the kids are going through on the field. I hear a lot of parents make comments to their kids, but I always wonder if they really know what it's like. It's a fast paced, very physical sport that requires a tremendous amount of technical abilities.
I have been fortunate enough to play this sport in 3 countries and have coached for 20 years. Nice to be involved with an educated group...

In fact, when the majority of the old farts on this blog played, they didn't have it as easy as they had to ride their bikes at least 5 miles to practices and soccer balls were square back then. No grass on the fields either, just dirt and gravel.

Re: Family Soccer Experience
I'm an old fart that played in NJ back in the days of the NY Cosmos.
I didn't ride a bike. I walked/jogged about 4 miles each way, and yes, it was uphill both ways, and sometimes it snowed. Then again, it was over a pretty big hill, so it was also downhill both ways.
I played plenty without shinguards, and was forced to change boots a number of times because I preferred the metal screw in cleats.
And yes, I am a lawyer now.

Re: Family Soccer Experience
What's up with all the lawyers on here? So if your bb played a game this coming weekend with no shin guards (league forgot to check), and a bb on the other team slid into him and messed his shins up badly, with metal cleats to say the least, you would have a nice little lawsuit on your hands. The question is, would ya......... You don't have to answer that, I just wished you hadn't fessed up on the lawyer part..........lol.ball-coise is mhath wrote:I'm an old fart that played in NJ back in the days of the NY Cosmos.

Re: Family Soccer Experience
great question Axx! but do they even make metal cleats for kids? and second as long as your using "regular" cleats you could do it to my son without a problem his MMA training helps with conditioning of the ol' shins!Axxman wrote:What's up with all the lawyers on here? The only metal cleats/studs for kids are the F 50's where you can change the studs. And if i was the lawyer i would be telling my kid to rub some dirt on it . And yes i enjoy the emote. lol

yes,no,no...
after my first 2-3 years playing, remember us kids switching from the old, leather high 'boot' (with nailed-in wooden spegs for studs ), to the 'new' style shoe, ancestor to the modern cleat...
yikes!

Re: Family Soccer Experience
Back in my day, flopping on the ground and rolling around holding your leg to draw a foul after a little tap wasn't quite the art form it seems to have become these days. That was for wusses, not real men--playing through nasty bruises and bloody shins was part of the game. Getting soccer boots wasn't so easy, and plenty of us wore football cleats.
Shin guards make it easier to continue playing hard when playing aggressive ball. I'm all for em, but they don't do much to prevent serious injury. I also didn't wear bike helmets, seat belts etc. etc. But you bet I make my kids--its a do as I say, not as I did as a kid kind of thing.
If it was my kid, I'd have a talk with him about being stupid for not wearing them. I applauded my 94s coach the other day when he made half the team run sprints etc. after practice because they weren't wearing their shin guards.
