99 Can a coach get in trouble for saying...
that he has verbal commitments from players prior to July 1st when trying to get a kid to go with his team?

That coach should not be trying to persuade a player from coming over next year during this year unless the player does not currently play for a team. That goes directly against the policy! This is the problem coaches can't develop so they steal. What a sham. In other states even telling a player that he/she played a great game and you liked how they played is against the recruiting policies because of the attraction of the large club status.

This happened prior to this season. The coach was apparently telling everyone he had verbal commitments from players prior to July 1st. Some of the parents are upset with the coach and I am curious what will happen if they pursue this issue. I really don't want anything to happen to the team.

Parents, in most cases, can see who is commited to the team before July 1st. If the kid/s in question are not coming to practices in June, doubtful they are coming on signing day no matter what the Coach says..
I cannot see the Coach getting into any "trouble" for those statements. ...he said, she said, misunderstanding, etc, etc.
Just like in business and personal life, make your own decisions. Coaches, in any select sport, say a lot of things to secure players.....

It's not a misunderstanding. They have it an email and are considering aproaching NTSA. We have advised against it but I think they will follow through. So you don't think there is anything to worry about?

I'm guessing NTSA would say... if your decision to sign was based on other players signing...why did you sign. Nobody, including to coach, can force you to sign with a team.
If your unhappy, complete your contract obligation to club and get a release from NT. Happens like this every year..

A verbal commitment is not worth the paper it's written on. So, you really have NOTHING to worry about.Texas FC wrote:It's not a misunderstanding. Sounds like there is more going on that are upsetting the parents. If the coach was doing a good job in developing the players I don't see why there would be the need to go to the board for something as trivial as a few promised players.
