Teens charged over linesman death

This should hit home with us here in NTX. As parents we need to stop displaying aggressiveness towards our officials on the field or we could see this happen here.

The article says it's the second such homicide in a year over there! Shocked

I just read that too. The other homicide was when a player kicked a 77-year-old spectator in the chest so hard it ruptured his spleen.

I did find this in another article about the same topic, "Amsterdam alderman Eric van der Burg, whose portfolio in the city covers sports, said the team from Nieuw Sloten had been in trouble twice before, once for verbally abusing a referee and once when a player got into a fight with a spectator. The player involved in the fight was suspended by the club, Van der Burg told the AP in an email."

One would think they would already have rules in place in a highly competitive soccer community to prevent someone reffing their own child's game.

Doesn't excuse the assault (and obviously its pure conjecture on my part) but I would be willing to bet his conflict of interest is what led to the fight.

You also wonder what the hell everyone else was doing?

It's a very common practice here in Europe especially in the lower leagues, it keeps the cost down. A long time ago even the CR was from the hometeam.
