Re: Investment in United States youth system
Both the United States' Under-17 and Under-23 teams struggled to implement a 4-3-3 setup – a technically demanding formation that requires both collective understanding and intricate skill
Part of the problem is they have selected players that are not capable of playing that was. Decide on a style of play and be firm. Then select players based on their ability to play "that" system

Re: Investment in United States youth system
In my opinion one of the problems is that the US Youth Soccer programs have become a money making industry. Only those parents with the economic means can afford the club fees, traveling expenses, etc. to put their kids on the top clubs. This situation limits the pool of kids.

ph they do a great job of limiting it all by themselves. Just saw the list for the u14 girls team to come into training. They have a player pool of a whopping 48 players. The full brazil national team has that many. There is no way they can tell me that out of the thousands and thousands of girls playing they have already managed to find the top 14

I'll take it a step further.
Drop "select" soccer until 13 or 14. At that age, then pick the players with technical ability and brains and put them into truly "professional" academies.
Until then, play in the park, futsal, indoor and small-sided 6v6, 8v8, etc. and drop all this structure, promotion/relegation, state, regional, national cup bs.
It sure as hell ain't working anyway. Not the way it is structured now.

Investment? LMFAO!
The "investment" is on the families. Not USSoccer.
If you can't control and pass the ball well, you get no return on investment.

The question is can you find any kids who are taught to play that formation at the youth level. Coppell HS does that I believe but outside of that most teams in NTX have the one or two lone players hanging out waiting for the kick.
