I'm glad AFC broke it up into 3 divisions w/2 brackets each! Great competition for sure, good luck to all the teams!

Should be good competition. It would be nice if this age group offered semifinals so more teams could advance.

Our parents were disappointed to go 2-1 in XARA and not get a chance to play a fourth game. That will likely happen to a few teams in this one too.

But I'm sure all the teams will have a good experience.

Yeah, a playoff would be nice. I wonder if there just isn't enough time and available fields for a playoff?

Cynically, it may just be a profit thing.  Fewer games, fewer refs, leads to more profit.

At the XARA tournament, the 04 girls teams complained about not having semifinals.  And, somehow, the tournament director found a way to make it happen.  But that 04 girls group can be, ahem, a little on the vocal side.

At the Plano Labor Day, we actually had quarterfinals, semis and finals.  And most every primetime tournament we have done has a had a playoff, even if the tournament only had 4 or 8 teams.  So it's certainly doable over three, or even two days -- particularly with the good weather (i.e. 70 versus 105 degrees) -- to work in a four team playoff.

Here's the XARA U10 girls bracket:  http://events.gotsport.com/events/resultsgrid.aspx?EventID=33969&GroupID=325421

And the Plano Labor Day: http://events.gotsport.com/events/resultsgrid.aspx?EventID=32117&GroupID=283888

Well, they hit the motherload then, 370 teams! But yes most everything associated with club soccer is for a money grab.

There are 30+ flights with at least 8 teams. There is neither the time, nor the available fields on Sunday for 8-team divisions to get semi's. Every goal in each pool game is that much more important.

When contracting fields a year ago, we did not anticipate needing this many complexes. We have more teams than the last two AFC Fall Challenge tournaments, combined. We were lucky that the cancer-benefit tournament canceled in Denton, so we could use those 5 fields.

Yeah I get that these are a giant logistical challenge.  Congrats on the tournament growth.

if the fields aren't there then that is the answer.  Thanks for all your work in putting together what looks like a great tourney field.

Thanks Coach Dom for the explanation. Playoff or no playoff it should be very competitve and a good indicator of where your team stands.

First game tonight should give us a good idea if DK or DRD make it out of their brkt, although SRC shouldn't be taken lightly. Anyhow, this should be a great game to kick off the tourney for the 05's!

Good luck to all!

cheers
