05 Classic League Update

Looks like the Classic league champion will come down to FC Dallas Premier and Dallas Texans Dallas. I think the biggest surprises have to be the good results for FC Dallas East and the struggles of Dallas Kicks. Just seven games left until the season is over. Does anyone know the makeup of these teams between the 04s and 05? I have to think that there will be some big changes coming to this group in the Fall with the change to birth year.

Nothing unusual about this U11 age group from any other. The top two teams run the league and everyone else follows. We still don't have a lot of depth in player development and this is the major indicator.

Also, I would bet that most of the top kids on the top teams are Fall 04 birthdays with a few really good 05s.

IMO, the 05 BY kids are the major benefactors of the new AP system. In essence, they have three choices:

1. Play U12 CL

2. Play U13 CL with current team

3. Play U12 DA

There will be more turnover in this group than any other in the new system. The top 05 BY kids will move to DA. Some of the top Fall 05 BY kids will move straight into U12 DA and never play CL.

This is the first age group ever where the top kids completely bypass Classic League.

Interesting. So do the 05's go academy in 2016 or 2017?

I had heard the latter, but the age charts at USSF would seem to say that the 05's should be u12 and start academy in the fall (and skip select).

On the other hand, the Academy PowerPoint shows the 04s being u12 and being next up for academy.

Age charts seem like an easy thing for US soccer to get right. Apparently not.

Even if the DA lags behind a year in the initial phase, the top 05s will join the 04s in U12DA. This age group is the sweet spot for the new system.
