Is it true about some '01 teams in SDL

I heard that some '01 teams have requested that '02 teams not play up in their division. Could this be true?

not surprising. We used to have 2000 teams play up in our division. Great for them and a wasted weekend for us.

Hey go99 when you say wasted weekend for you guys, do you mean in regards to no competition for your team?

yes. I would assume that against some of the bottom teams they were competative but don't know for sure. But against some of the better teams it was a game you were going to win by a comfortable amount and without much trouble in doing so.

In our situation I believe it may be vice versa. We play up in their second division and from what I heard these teams specifically requested not to allow '02 teams play up. I can tell you we are not a waste of time for them when it comes to competition.
We play up for the competition and also this season to allow us to play 11 v 11.

never played in the second division so wouldn't know about how competative it is but I am sure they would rather play and win or lose to an 01 team than play and beat an 02 team. It's a no win situation for them. Even if they win they still only managed to beat a bunch of 02's. If the league allows it great, but I wouldn't expect the 01's to welcome you with open arms. Also 11v11 is not a good thing. Really wish bb could have played 9v9 on the smaller fields longer

I guess their issue is not beating an 02 team but losing to one. SDL allowed us to play up in U9 last season and we won all but one game. I appreciate the feedback go99.

that's even worse but even if they win, what good does it do them? From what I have seen in the past it hasn't really shown to have kept the team that is playing up ahead of their peers either. From what I can tell, other that the boost of "look at us we beat the older boys", it doesn't seem to have much of an impact. That being said there was a 99 team that played up for a season that may have been warranted. They were beating all of the other 99 teams by at least close double digits.

Good for your team, Futbolista. If your kids can compete, then let them play. It will all catch up to you in a couple of years anyway. At U11, you will be playing your peers again in Classic. Just make sure all your players are learning how to play the game (technically), and not just learning how to win off the feet of a few.

I agree go for it, just don't expect the older teams to welcome you in.

Its quite interesting hearing everyone's opinion on this topic. Why would older teams be against younger teams playing in their division? One of two reasons either they feel beating them doesn't accomplish anything or the feeling of losing to a younger team.

In this case I feel they aren't happy getting beat by a younger team. By looking on previous posts of yours I have a feeling I know what team your BB plays for so I know they don't want to get beat. I believe all 3 U8 teams playing up last season did the same.

I understand the reason for playing up. You want more of a challenge. I think they should allow teams to play up while you can. If those other coaches don't like it than they should develop their players a little better.

if they are beating "every" team in their age group by double digits then they should probably play up. Would put too much on it though because your supposed "superiority" doesn't last. By the time qulifying comes around they are back in their age group and competative at best.

I don't think they are trying to prove they are "superior" but more they want more of a challenge every week. I don't see anything wrong with that. Now when it comes to them at an older age then I am sure there will be more compettive teams as some players take a while to blossom than others but until then let them play up whether other teams welcome them or not.

I think I know what team they are talking about GO99, trust me, they can handle any 01 team!!

My dd play with some 04's against the 03's last season and they were not always welcome, especially when they won. I am all for it but also understand the other side.

So it looks we all agree that the older teams may not like it or welcome it but I don't think its fair that SDL is not allowing teams to play up. Do you?

Hell NO it's not fair!! They are making this rule just cause a few 01's are scarred to get beat by an 02 team!!

Unfortunately that's not what our coach is trying to accomplish by playing us up. If winning was all he cared about then he would have kept us in our division. He wants our boys to be challenged every week. Hey at least Primetime will allow it.

So is SDL going to or not going to allow teams from any age group play up? If they aren't allowing teams to play up than something needs to be put on their website.
