Re: U11 Power 16 (7/20/09)
Will it be closer to 50 or 80 teams in the qualifying tournament? Also, after the 20 D1 teams are there 10 teams in the other divisions. That would be D2, Plano and Arlington = a total of 50 teams playing select.

20 will make D1 and 10 will make D2. Plano and Arlington pick up those wishing to play select that aren't in the Classic League.

I was told 2 days ago by the League that there are 54 teams. In any case 20 make D1 and 10 make D3. There is no D2.

As of this morning I had heard the 49 number. I guess we'll know when they officially release the brackets.Eleven Eleven wrote:I was told 2 days ago by the League that there are 54 teams. In any case 20 make D1 and 10 make D3. There is no D2.
So is the D3 label new this year? The second level was referred to as D2 last year.

Re: U11 Power 16 (7/20/09)
Maybe 5 teams already dropped. Hopefully they do not lose their fee.
You're right, it was referred to as D2. Some people consider it D3 but obviously that's unofficial.
As far as "select" goes you can be a select team without playing in the other two leagues. If you go to the NTSA website you can read the rules regarding rec play and select play.

Looks like 49 teams - the following is posted on the CCSAI website:
2009 QUALIFYING TOURNAMENT FORMAT
Download - Click Here
There are 49 teams in the QT. For Round I, these 49 team shave been divided into 9 brackets of 5 teams and 1 bracket of 4 teams. During the first weekend of play, each team will play the other 4 (3) teams in its bracket. At the completion of Round I, the top team in each bracket will qualify for Division I, the teams in 5th place will be eliminated from consideration, and all 2nd, 3rd and 4th place teams (30 teams in total) will advance to Round II.
The 30 teams in Round II (second weekend of play) will be re-seeded (at the League's sole discretion) into 10 brackets of 3 teams. Each team will play the other 2 teams in its bracket. At the completion of Round II, the top team in each bracket will qualify for Division I, the 2nd place teams will qualify for Division II, and the teams in3rd place will be eliminated from consideration
The Classic League is an invitational league and qualification and/or invitations to participate remain at all times revocable pursuant to Classic League rules. For example, conduct deemed unethical or otherwise prejudicial to the Classic League may result in a team being eliminated from consideration notwithstanding its record in the competition.
While not currently anticipated, the Classic League further reserves the right to alter the format as needed to contend with unforeseen circumstances or address issues not addressed by these rules.
As per Classic League rules, Seeding for Rounds I and II will be based on the best available information, with the most capable teams being seeded higher in the pairings. Seeding decisions of the Tournament Committee are final and
non-appeal able.

Re: U11 Power 16 (7/20/09)
Of course they will get a break in the seedings. Between the Texans and FC they will make up 10-12 of the 49 teams. However, only three of those teams (Texan/dynomo, Texans south and FCSuarez) are deserving of a #1 seed. We will all find out soon enough.

Re: U11 Power 16 (7/20/09)
OK, we know they determine seeding for round I and then reseed for round II. Once the QT is complete and there are 20 teams in D1 and 10 teams in D2 - are they seeded again for the fall classic season? If so, how is that done and what does it mean in terms of scheduling who plays who in the fall?
I have heard that the top 10 D1 teams play the bottom 10 D1 teams in the fall season and then the top 10 play each other in the spring season. Is that corrrect?

Unless they change something this year, the top 20 in D1 will play each other each one time throughout the year, half in fall, half in spring. Top 10 become D1 next year (2010/2011); 11-18 become D2, with 19 and 20 relegating to D3 and #1 and #2 in D3 getting promoted to D2; with the bottom 2 teams out of D3 having to go through challenge games to retain their bye, or get relegated to Plano/Arlington.

Re: U11 Power 16 (7/20/09)
Last year, they used the same seeding as in the Qualifying Tournament. Thus, if you won bracket 1 on the first weekend you are the overall 1 seed for the league. This is true even if you were a lower seed. So, in the 98s last year, the overall 24th seed (third in bracket 4) won their bracket on the first weekend resulting in the overall 4 seed for league play. This is somewhat irrelevant in that all D1 teams will play each other once during the year. It only impacts the order of games.Eight-Ball wrote:OK, we know they determine seeding for round I and then reseed for round II. For the 2nd weekend, again it was based on the seeding in the bracket that you came out of, thus the winner of bracket 1 on the 2nd weekend was the overall 11th seed (although they were the 4th seed going into qualifying).
Finally, the schedule did not play out that you played the the top 10 in the first half, bottom 10 in the 2nd half. Merely the first game was 1 vs. 20, 2 vs. 19, after that it jumbled with #1 overall playing #5 on the third weekend...

Who and how many make up the so called committee that ranks the teams in the QT? Do they actually watch the teams or just go on records and information they receive from others.

I truly believe that the committee do their absolute best to ensure that the seeding reflect the field they would like in Classic League in the coming season, and have no doubt the bracket will clearly reflect such. It will all work itself out on the field in the end.CLUB31 wrote:Who and how many make up the so called committee that ranks the teams in the QT? Re: U11 Power 16 (7/20/09)
Good luck to all of the U-11 teams! Our boys are in high school now, but I do remember that qualifying stress and excitement. Try to focus on the excitement. Somehow, nearly all of the teams ended up in a league that was a good fit each year, and those that didn't worked their way up or down pretty quickly. Our kids have had a great time playing in the Classic League and we have had had a great time watching. I wish the same to all of you!
