I predict we will get a little seeding clarity among the second and third tier teams.

This being a friendly, it will really depend on the brackets. When do they come out?

What exactly does that mean a friendly? Do they not keep score or how is it different than any other tournament?

From the FCD website, each team plays 4 games. If it's like last year, they will still keep scores up on GotSoccer so we'll know the results. There just won't be any playoffs.

GotSoccer has a neat feature that lets you sign up for texts or emails as results are posted so you can keep up with what's going on if you want to.

Also, from what I just saw there will be three divisions (Gold Silver and Bronze) so my guess is they will group teams by strength. Again, we'll have to wait for the brackets to post to see who we're playing.

Gold should be an interesting bracket to watch as it features two SDL Div 1 teams from last year (FCD Premier and FCD Central) and 3 of the stronger teams from SDL D2. It should be another day at the office for Premier taking 1st. Not sure how to rank the teams after that.

Agreed Premier is the definite favorite in the gold bracket. The interesting thing to watch is how well the transition goes - this is Pino's first tourney as the team's new coach.

Hopefully Snell won't be there yelling at other teams' kids. cheers

Speaking from experience ... it's a big step up from D2 to D1. It probably won't be that interesting.

Jack, why would you pick a Liverpool team to do well in the top bracket? They've consistently shown (both in 01 and generally in Select) that their best team will be a mid-D2 team at best. Remember, history tends to repeat itself. (Can't wait to get all the hate from the Liverpool parents but facts are facts) Shocked

What happen to FC Dallas Gold and Texans North? I'm guessing the omission is the reason why the schedule was taken down.

For the Gold bracket, it will either be FC Dallas Premier and FC Dallas Central taking the top 2 spots. FC Dallas Central (aka Juniors/Water) has upgraded since the SDL days. Some of the Vitesse players are now on this team along with other pickups. The Premier vs Central should be the game to watch in this bracket, both teams play a similiar style.

I don't love the brand of soccer that Liverpool Callaghan plays, but they are decent on defense and have fast forwards that will burn you if they can get behind you. That formula can work against teams that aren't disciplined on defense. That's where I see the other gold bracket teams. There's not a lot of conviction in that pick though.

hmm, odd post. they play a possession style of soccer and what you are describing is kick and run, something wilco specifically frowns on. coming in second is possible but far from a certainty.

We've played them twice in the last few months. They scored all of their goals on run outs. I don't recall them stringing together more than 2 or 3 passes per possession.

edit - the only 01 team that I see as a "posession team" is Solar Red. For all the rest, it's a good posession when they string together 4 or 5 passes.

I disagree ... FCD Premier and the Bazan team are both excellent possession style 01 teams.

FCD Premier is on the hairy edge of being a possession team. They can do it against lesser competition, but not so much when they are playing a D1 level team.

I haven't seen Bazan's team play so I can't comment on them.

Right.

Looking at their gotsoccer scores they don't seem to give up too many goals so that might indicate a good possession game. I just haven't happened to see them play.

Keep in mind that during the fall and spring they had a first team and a second team that they mixed and matched for SDL games and tournaments. Now that they're down to just their top 14 or 15 players, they'll be competing with Solar Red, the Texans teams and Premier for the top spot. Top to bottom they have the best skills in the age group. They're just missing some athletes to match up with those speedy SR kids.

only fly in that ointment is does bazan really coach an 01 team with all his other responsibilities or hand it off to "a well qualified assistant".......

I'll say this ...

FCD has a nice little advantage with this King Tut tournament. They have a chance to showcase their best teams in the last tournament going into the QT.

Unless they re-jigger, they've chosen not to help FCD Red.

edit - of course this is FCD we are talking about so they play favorites and are brain dead at times.

The link is incorrect on the other thread. FCD Red is the old Phil Gomez Samba team (albeit with some significant upgrades). That link was to the FCD Bazan team which is not playing in the tourney as far as I know (I asked one of their parents earlier this week).

My BB plays on an FCD team and, frankly, we have seen no favoritism at the club.
