GotSoccer Rankings and Points
Can someone please explain how they determine tne points given for leagues, tournaments, et cetera?
I understand how they generate the points (I think) for champion, finalists, semi finalists, and occassionaly quarter finalists - but how in the heck do they determine the "flight" points?
To me leagues should have a higher ranking than tournaments (again my opinion), but it seems that tournaments have a higher weighting than leagues. Am I wrong?

Re: GotSoccer Rankings and Points
My first guess would be because not all leagues use GotSoccer (PPL doesn't, Arlington does), therefore not all teams get points for league play. Our team has dropped -10 spots this year, after being in Classic League for the first time since U11 and finishing in 2nd place. Tournament play last year was great - were either finalists or champions of every tournament we played, and there were many. This year, our tournament play hasn't been nearly as strong as last year, hence the drop.

Re: GotSoccer Rankings and Points
Depends on the quality of the tournament or the league. 1st place D1 CL is worth about 5000 + points. Not many tournaments are worth that much.

Re: GotSoccer Rankings and Points
Okay - I understand the quality question, but now it takes me back to how in the heck do they determine the flight values.
I looked up some recent tournaments and the flight value was all over the map.
ESPN COPA 6100
State Cup 5200
Winter Classic 2900
DTSC Fall Festival 4900
Memorial Day 3900
Plano Labor Day 6000
Classic League plays 18 games and these tournaments are single weekend with 5 or 6 games.

Re: GotSoccer Rankings and Points
Found this on the forum archives:
The flight value and tournament ranking for each event changes from year to year. We cannot guarantee a ranking for any event. For events using our software we are able to set the flight value as early as one week before the event is held. For those not using our software we cannot determine the flight value until after the event is held when we enter the results.
GotSoccer Rankings awards points based on which teams you defeat and on your own national points total.
Each tournament's flight is assigned a value based on the top 5 teams in the flight. The points contributed by each team is calculated based on their national rank. The point breakdowns are as follows:
Teams in the top 1% contribute10000 points.
Teams in the top 2% contribute 7500 points.
Teams in the top 3% contribute 5000 points.
Teams in the top 5% contribute 2500 points.
Teams in the top 7% contribute 1250 points.
Teams in the top 10% contribute 625 points.
Teams in the top 25% contribute 313 points.
Teams in the top 50% contribute 156 points.
Teams in the lower 50% contribute 78 points.
The value of the top ranking teams in the flight are then averaged to generate the flight's final value or pool. The winners will be awarded points from this pool, minus 20% of their current national points total. This deduction will be higher for teams with more points and lower for teams with less points, in order to balance the awards given even if the competition was not balanced, and reward teams who go up against stronger competition and win.
The flight Champion will win a point reward based on the total pool of points available. The finalist will be rewarded a value based on one-half of the total. If applicable, the semi-finalists will receive one-quarter, and the quarter-finalists will receive one-eighth.
