They did fantastic considering the circumstances! What are those you ask? Well one is those particular kids don't even play futsal. Second after the first game I was told the Texans played the entire tourney with NO subs. NO subs, five games? Not too bad. Also talking to a guy that works up there at city futsal, two of those Santos players were already considered proffesionals. And I can see why, they were special players. They said these two kids were being talked about as the next big things to come out of Santos. Again, I guess Texan boys do better then just HANG in there Sprint. Your little snide remarks don't go unnoticed. Sprint how did your sons team do against Santos? How did your sons team do against Texans? And that question is asked to all you other parents that had kids play in the tourney. I wish my son team could of put a team in the tournament. Although they would of probably gotten killed, would of been a great experience for them. But I can bet I wouldn't of been cheering like crazy (like a lot of you parents) when the Santos team was scoring on the Texans, just cause you were HATING cause your kid wasn't playing on the championship game. Even one of the main workers from city futsal agreed and made the comment that all that was just a bunch of jealous parents out there. This is the problem, and it's really funny, there is this group of parents I've noticed up at City, that that's all they do is play futsal. They've swPorn off outdoor soccer for some reason and think thatt just playing futsal is gonna make your kids play like Santos. And then a group of kids come in and plays your teams, that never play futsal, and destroy your teams. Wonder what's the problem? Maybe the problem is you? You have no clue of what it takes for your kid to be a top player. So what do you do.....hate against every other kid, team, club, whatever........ cause it's not working out for you and your kid. To the parents that have your kids just playing futsal and nothing else, and it's a little group that's growing, you are NOT Santos, and your kid will NOT magically stat to play like Santos just cause you are doing futsal. Might want to check and see what those Texan boys are doing so maybe next time your teams can actually try and HANG with Santos.

Sorry I just have to challenge some of your statements here. I'm pretty sure none of us can foresee future success in this sport. No I r has a magic formula. However I can tell you this with complete certainty, we have never won a World Cup, Confederations Cup, ConCaCaf Championship or any other prestigious international tournament. The introduction and use of American players in elite teams /leagues around the world is a relatively new occurrence and even then we rarely make a difference. Something is just not working. We have played the game for a long time here so there is no excuse. Something has to change. Bringing me to my point, why would I have my BB follow the same old routine, same thinking, and same old training when it has NOT worked yet?!?!? What do they say the definition of insanity is? Doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result.... Sorry I'm going to try my luck with something different that DEFINITELY includes futsal. Seems to be working quite well for the Brazilians, Spanish, Argentinians, etc.

Side note...IMHO ConCaCaf Championship should not even be on the same discussion as the others.....it's a club competition (clubs roster players of various nationalities) and it is a joke at best (albeit one that allows the winning team to face the best clubs in the world each December)....for the sake of your argument, I'd say the Gold Cup has more weight than ConCaCaf Championship and we have won that several times. In fact, we will win it again this year. cheers

Ah! Thank you for the correction. I should have just simplified it and said "prestigious international tournaments". As for Gold Cup, the same tourney where Wondowlowski scores a hat trick in a game? Yeah, still not impressed.

Agree on the Gold Cup prestige but you know what? Winning it provides us half ticket to the next Confederations Cup in 2017 and an opportunity to go face all those futsalers in the world. Last (2009) Confederations Cup, US did very well against Spain and Brazil outside of bracket play.

Good point! I can definitely see some of those Santos boys representing Brazil in 2017.

First, I could be completely wrong on the whole "they never played futsal before" thing. If I'm wrong, I will admit it. I honestly don't know those kids very well, I've just watched them play in other games with their outdoor teams I'm sure like most of us. I only said that cause again, that's what the word was going around the courts. That basically that team wasn't a full time futsal program team. Again this was reinforced by one of the actually city futsal employees. He works the futsal program up there, and he made the same comment to me during the game. But if I'm wrong with that info, then I apologize for making a general statement, I can admit when I'm wrong, unlike a lot of people on here. And let me be clear, the Santos team was fantastic! I just don't think we ever give any of our NYX kids any credit for job well done. If I missed that in your post Sprint, again apologize. But for some of you to deny that there wasn't an overwhelming feeling of "let's go Santos! Beat those Texan kids! Show them that they don't know how to play soccer!" Then once again, your lying to yourselves.

Futsal is going to do to US soccer what snowboarding did to downhill skiing. They share the slopes but not the same philosophy. May take some time, but it will happen..

People should appreciate that City Futsal took the lead and brought a team in to compete against the local boys. Without question, Santos has two very special players and there is a good chance of them playing at the next level. The Santos team had the advantage against all the teams because of the experience they spend playing futsal. Will we see any of the local boys or the Santos boys playing at the next level? Simple answer will be the Santos boys, because they live and breathe the game, the local boys will probably play college and stop there.

If my child was 7 or 8, I would send him the futsal way and catch up later with outdoor. If you take the time to see some of the younger players they have in futsal, they all can use both feet and have a very good first touch, unlike most outdoor players even in D1 Classic and even Pre-Academy (which my child is in).

We all should be grateful we have the futsal option and that City Futsal runs a first rate program.

simple answer is we are not likely to see either the local boys or the santos boys playing at the next level. Shake a tree in brazil and a talented futsal player falls out and not because they have been in some wonderful futsal program. Because they "play" soccer and futsal. Not train, but play. You have to give city futsal some credit if they have some talented two footed kids it's because of the program not because of futsal. Besides there are plenty of one footed kids in Brazil and certianly didn't seem to stop Messi. At 13 the Santos boys are getting a little long in the tooth fairly soon they will be getting shipped off or cut if they are getting into that first team door. So just because they dominated your kids doesn't mean they are the next Neymar

Good experience for all the boys that played. The teams and players that choose to practice instead of playing in the tournament you and your bb lost out, and you should question your coach. Not every day you get a chance to play Santos, but we get excited to play teams we have been playing against for the passed 4-5 years. One thing I take from this experience is that we are not that good and we have to change what we do to improve or we will continue to develop robots as soccer players! And before anyone gets all upset its okay if you strive to be they best classic league soccer player in DFW.

Having a boy that played the tournament - against Santos and all the other very talented teams in the Super Group - I have a couple observations.

First, a couple of the Santos players really are special (at least at this age).  The two that everyone are referring to, # 10 and #11, play up a year on the club's top team and start.  They truly are talented.

Second, a major difference between Santos and DT, Solar, and FCD (the house teams are a little different, but they had several "guest" players not in their program so this applies to them a bit too) was that Santos had professional coaches.  What this obviously provided was a knowledge of futsal tactics and strategy that the other teams just didn't have.  They moved off the ball, had confidence in their teammates, kept their shape, etc.  It was a clinic!

So...  talented kids + strong, futsal-specific coaching = a team that was really fun to watch.

My boy will always have the memory of having played a top international team and that is just priceless!

Kudos to the Muriel family for putting up the money to get the Santos team here and hosting a first class tournament.  I hope this is just the first in a long line of annual competitions against 'world class' competition.

Hey Federico - can you get the Barcelona youth to come out next year?  Very Happy

My two cents worth....great tournament....boys training at city futsal are getting better....Santos boys were amazing....great foot work and soccer intelligence....not sure that all futsal players that excel at that type of soccer flourish on the outdoor stage....need to have better athleticism outdoors compared to the small indoor futsal courts where athleticism is not nearly as needed...but futsal is great place to train and improve when it is too hot outdoors in the summer

The game of futsal requires fundamentals and most ntx youth players lack basic fundamentals. You can see a big difference in the boys that play futsal and the ones that don't. Athleticism can only do so much, you will be exposed in futsal if you come with just athleticism. Parents need to wake up

Not sure you got what I was saying....Athletically gifted kids alone will not do well in outdoor soccer, they need skill as well, however kids with skill and limited athletic ability will not do well outside of futsal...as the speed of the game will overcome their skills....What we need is for the "special athletic kids" to get futsal and other footwork training to compliment their athletic abilities....only a few will possess these two abilities...

I almost completely agree Smile

Players like Pipo Inzagahi, Raul, Pirlo, and even Xavi Hernandez are not very athletic and they did pretty well. You are correct about most players needing to have fundamentals and athleticism. However more accuratley it should be based on position. My thoughts.

some good pts. Always exceptions to the rule. But the easier path if blessed is to have both athleticism and skill. Smile
