Aces defense looked to be in mid-season form. Offense was opportunistic and scored when they needed to, including one that was called back for either offsides or because the keeper had a hand on the ball, not sure what the call was. Texas Blitz looked to be much-improved over last season and played a good game. I'm sure they will do well the rest of the weekend, and should be a nice team by the end of the Fall.
Please post other scores as you have them, as Plano does not appear to be updating the website very quickly.

Re: PPL QT Results & Game Reviews
Not that they need to be defended, but in defense of Plano they are probably waiting until all of the first round games are finished before they post the scores from the earlier games. There was a last game being played at 11:45, so hopefully all of the scores will go up once that game is completed.

That's a clear improvement then! Keep up the hard work. It will pay off for the boys in the end.

Thank you, we were pleased with their play. As you know, there is ALWAYS room to improve. Off to the 3:30 game with Blitz

Nationals FC 5 - Texas Xtreme 1, from earlier this morning.
Aces went up 2-0 pretty quickly and it looked like it was going to be a cakewalk. It turned out to be a nail-biter though. Plano United came back with two quick goals to tie the game early in the second half. Aces stretched it out again with two more goals, then had to hold off Plano United at the end for the one goal victory.
Plano United showed a lot of skill and heart to keep coming back in this game. They gave Aces all they wanted and then some. Congrats to their team for a great effort.

That's a great start for FCD, and a big "uh oh!" for Valencia, who is now 0-2 and in danger of missing out on Plano I.
Please post more scores, as Plano STILL has not updated the website with any scores from today.

Valencia will be a good team. I was talking to their coach and they have a lot of new players. They are very skilled with the ball and once they gel they will be tough to beat.

They were a very strong team all of last season. They need a big 10-point win tomorrow against the Longhorns to get themselves back into contention.

Ouch. Sounds like the heat finally took it's toll. Impressive to put up three goals on the Blitz though. Aces only scored twice.

Re: PPL QT Results & Game Reviews
The following is based on the assumption that PPL will have a 10-team Division I, which means eight of the 12 teams in the QT will advance. The picture is obviously different if Division I will have less than 10 teams.
Already guaranteed a spot:
FCD White (20 points)
Aces (18 points)
WF Express (17 points)
In with a win on Sunday:
Nationals FC (14 points)
Plano United (12 points)
Tiapehuala (10 points)
Texas Blitz (9 points)
Texas Xtreme (9 points)
Need a win on Sunday and some help:
CDI (5 points)
Milan FC (3 points)
Valencia (1 point)
Longhorns (1 point)
Predictions for Sunday's games:
8:00 - Texas Xtreme 2 - CDI - 1
8:00 - Valencia 3 - Longhorns 0
8:00 - WF Xpress 2 - FCD 1
10:30 - Nationals FC 2 - Tiapehuala 0
10:30 - Plano United 2 - Texas Blitz 2
11:45 - Aces 5 - Milan FC 1
With these results, the eight advancing teams would be: Aces (27), WF Xpress (25), Nationals FC (23), FCD (21), Plano United (17), Texas Blitz (14), Texas Xtreme (14) and Valencia (11), barely edging Tiapehuala (10).
Valencia must get a 10 point win, so they can't afford to give up any goals to Longhorns. Tiapehuala needs to get at least one goal to get to 11 points and hold Nationals FC to a small number of goals. We should have a good idea of where things stand once the 8:00 games are over.
The most competitive game on Sunday should be Texas Blitz vs. Plano United. These two teams have been highly competitve in their bracket. Plano United can afford a loss since they already have 12 points, which should get them into the top eight without any improvement. Texas Blitz could end up outside the top eight if they lose, as they currently stand at just 9 points.
I really missed soccer this summer. Glad to get the competitive juices flowing again! Watch out for record heat tomorrow...105 with a THI of 112.

I almost forgot the premier matchup of the day, FCD vs. WF Xpress, a battle of two of the three undefeated and untied teams vying for first place in their bracket. That one should be fun to watch, too bad I'll be sleeping.

Re: PPL QT Results & Game Reviews
Milan FC lost to Aces 4-0. I would like to personally thank the Aces coach and his team for sending my son to the hospital. My son was elbowed in the neck, went flying into the air and landed on his back. He went by ambulance, had a CAT scan. Thank God he is OK. Note the score was 1-0 Aces in the first half. Milan had 2 injuries in the game and had only 1 sub. The incident happened after my son cleared the ball.
I would also like to thank the ref for taking control of the game. His inaction resulted in pushing, elbowing, shoving players out of bounds and of course the usual name calling and insults.
It it truly a shame when the coach is heard encouraging his players to make sure they hit hard.

Sad but true, coaches that don't know how to teach good soccer have to rely on teaching their players to take everyone out. I hope your bb is okay!!3dogmary wrote:Milan FC lost to Aces 4-0. Mary,
On behalf of the Aces parents and team I would like to express our relief that your son is OK. We were all very concerned when we realized he was injured, and we're glad that everything checked out OK at the hospital. Sevral of us made sure to ask about your son after the game ended. I did not see the play that your son was injured on, so I will not comment on whether there was any intent to injure on the play. I sincerely hope it was accidental, as our team does not want to have the image of a "dirty" team. We have played against too many of those kinds of teams ourselves, and it is never fun to be on the other side of that kind of game.
I will say, having observed Select soccer for many years now, that today's game was not overly aggressive in my opinion. Both teams were very physical, which is the way this game is played on the Select level. This is quite a bit different than Rec soccer, so I can certainly understand how the game may have looked too aggressive. Also, as the boys get older and the hormones start flowing, the game gets rougher and rougher. This is inevitable.
I imagine you left the game to be with your son, and after you left I felt the referee did take control of the game. There were a number fouls that were called against Aces in the last half of the game. I do not feel that the game got out of hand at all, which does happen sometimes after there has been an injury. In that respect, I thought the referee did a commendable job. In our first game of the weekend we had two boys who were either punched or elbowed in the face and mouth and ended up bleeding on the sideline. This is just a more physical expreience than what you are accustomed to. Not that I like it any more than you do, but these things do happen.
In closing, we are very happy that your son is OK, and we wish you and your team the best of luck in the coming season.
