PYSA Season End Predictions Empty PYSA Season End Predictions

Post by homer999 2/24/2010, 10:34 am

My thoughts for PYSA 97b top spots. Current points are in ( ).

Monterrey (22 points)- Easily takes the top spot. Undefeated, one tie, only 8 games played.

The battle for the second spot:

FWU Blue (21 points)- Showed they can be beaten last weekend with a surprise loss to TFC White. They also have more games than most of the other top teams (10) so their 4 point advantage can go away quickly. A top contender for second place.
Solar Gold (17 points)- Only have 8 games. The two games FWU has that Gold doesn't are against TFC White and Solar Silver, so they should get at 3-6 more points and therefore be in a tight battle for second. This team has shown the ability to win the tight games but needs more scoring.
TLSC (16 points)- Strong defense has kept them in the fight, but unlike Solar, they haven't turned in the goals when they needed to do it. Have played two more games than Solar and still behind in points. You can't win 50% of your games and make is out of PYSA. On the bright side, at least thier goalie will be playing the spring break games.
TFC White (15 points)- 4 losses are going to be hard to overcome. Strong game last weekend against a previously undefeated FWU Blue. Even if they win out, second place will be tough. Same number of games as FWU Blue, have already played blue twice and still 6 points behind. Not enough runway to catch up.

Season ends with Monterrey in first, FWU Blue in second and Solar Gold missing the cut by 2 points.

After that, only Monterrey will advance through the challenge games with Millennium from Arlington league.

If I recall, the Amarillo Lightning are at the top of the Arlington standings too. They beat Millenium heads-up in the regular season as well as at the Arlington Labor Day shootout. I wouldn't discount them from advancing instead of Millenium.

FWU Blue won 2-1 over TLSC tonight. Solar Gold and Monterrey playing right now. Solar has 4 games in the next 5 days including FWU Sunday. Things may look a lot clearer by then.

TFC 3 - Aces 0

TFC is a strong team that plays a very coordinated game, very impressed. They attack with their passes and move well without the ball. They have a couple of boys that look like they could have driven themselves to the game...wow! First goal was a perfect shot to the near post, and the keeper was even protecting the near post. Couldn't have been more perfectly placed. The last two goals were second chances where the defense just couldn't clear the ball out of the box and gave up point-blank shots. Overall, a pretty good effort by Aces in their first game against a Group 1 team. They'll have to get better to compete at this level, but that's why they took the chance to move up.

Monterrey 3 - 0 Solar Gold. 1-0 until the last 10 minutes. Much more even game than the score reflects.

Monterrey definately has first. Second is still close. With 5 games left FWU still has to play Monterrey, so assume 4 wins and a loss for a total of 12 more points. Solar Gold has 6 games to play. They would need 17 points to beat FWU becuase a tie in points will give second to FWU. Unless FWU stumbles, Solar Gold needs to win out to take second. Of the teams left to play, only TLSC has tied them this year. Solar could do it, but I still think they tie one and end just behind FWU.
