Qualifying/Team Information-05 Age Group

So qualifying is in two weeks. What does anyone know about the 05 teams? How are they going to seed this age group? I am really curious as I think there are several teams that have no history as they have been put together with 05 players who played select last season and kids who are moving up from the 06 teams......

A lot of teams trying to qualify!!

66 teams? Figure 16+ groups?

For the top quartile, the teams that stand out (IMO) are ones that have high rankings on gotsoccer (very imperfect, particularly this year) and have either already played CL or have done well in leagues and tournaments.

For example, Dallas Texans 05B Dallas (Stark) is ranked #1, appears to have boys who played CL D1 last year, recently won the AP 05 Supercopa. Hard to see how they don't have a strong case. Then you have a team like FCD 05B Academy Gomez. Gomez' 05/06 team won CY 06 Supercopa and had a very strong spring. Did they add some more talent when they became 'Academy'? Even if they didn't, they were a very strong side.

Those two, in my opinion, seem to be at the top of the list.

With all the new profiles I am sure I missed some... I'd like to hear who other folks think belong towards the top that I missed or who I have that they disagree with. And perhaps a couple of these teams have great got soccer accounts that they've inherited... I took a go at it!

That's a pretty good list of the teams that have been competing at a fairly high level.

FCD Academy and Pino were formed after several weeks of pool training across the  05 age group at FCD.  

The core of FCD Academy is boys from Gomez, with several additions from FCD Premiere/JT, plus talented older boys who played select last year for FCD Premiere (1st in D1), Gomez and Pino (both top D1 teams).  Pino has a similar talented group that will be very good as they get more time together.

Texans Stark were formed in a similar pool process and have kids from the 2nd place D1 team last year.  Plus new, younger 05s.  

Oglesby added a few older kids to an already talented team.  Castro has been among the top teams for years.

LP Dalglish is a good example of a competitive team with a lot of older 05s.  I am sure there are others that will surprise, including some independents.  

Good luck to all the boys, and the poor schedulers trying to figure this all out.

The big unknown are the teams with no history. For example, I know of a classic league team from last year (05) that split exactly in half for the upcoming season. The 04 boys took the team history with them. This left the remaining 05 boys as a brand new team. The 05 team has 9 players returning with 7 additions. Several of the additions to the team are good enough to start. They did well at King Tut (3 wins and 1 tie) with three starters missing. The question is how will they be scheduled, as returning level Classic League team or Brand New? Unfortunately no one outside that team knows this. How many teams are there in this QT in the same spot? This should be really entertaining but I am afraid there might be some really good teams that get into a group of death and don't make classic.

@allentexan, No, I am talking about an FC Dallas Central Blue. But the LP Dalglish illustrates my point about teams flying under the radar because they were formed July 1, 2016.

Great list Joga Bonito – well done!  I think you can also put some weight on King Tut (close to actual QT rosters), which in general seem to validate your rankings. I’m adding the King Tut brackets and points to your list, as well as tossing in a few more teams.

Any ranking/seeding difference for teams playing in Gold vs Silver?

The teams self-identified their preferred bracket, but King Tut reserved the right to bump teams up or down for scheduling convenience (each U12 division was a multiple of 8 teams).

I don’t think its coincidence that JB’s ‘other stand out teams’ all thought of themselves as either Gold or upper end Silver (28+ points).

After further review, Solar Chelsea Martinez (Silver - 32) probably belongs up in that tier.

Will Classic seed teams lower or higher based on the division they played in for king tut?

Classic reps were on site and they’re supposed to be evaluating the quality of your soccer, not just your results.  So the relative strength of your opposition (i.e. gold v. silver v. bronze) is a critical factor to determine the seeding of your team (it matters). But they aren’t rigidly bound to King Tut’s divisions either. It’s possible for an excellent Silver/Bronze team to be seeded higher than a lower Gold/Silver team.  It’s also possible for a team that didn’t play in King Tut to be seeded higher than all of the Gold division teams (see Gomez and Stark above).

There's no doubt that Stark's Texans and Gomez's FC Dallas teams are the top 2. I generally agree with the groupings but I'll tweak it a little....

Do we know if CL will have 3 divisions for U12? Usually, after QT at U11, they have a massive D1 (20 teams) and normal size D2 (10 teams). Then, after the massive D1 sorts it self out after the season they go to 3 divisions for U12.

66 teams (or so) would mean probably 17 brackets (most have 4 teams, a couple have 3). Typically if you win your bracket the first weekend you are in the massive D1. If they only have 10 teams in D1 (like U12 in non QT years in the past) then the top 10 seeds become hugely important.

You have FC Dallas North Blue as a D 1 team but they have only won 2 of their last 10 games including a 5-2 loss to LP Barnes that you have in your D2 bracket. Is there something I missing?

I would guess that there would be 20 in Division 1 and 10 in division 2 with all group winners advancing on the first weekend and the remaining spots being filled the second weekend.

It'll be interesting to see how Classic ranks all the teams.

They will have to use what little they can from tournaments post signing day (looks like they nixed the Seeding Tournament after just 2 years) and coaches input. Coaches input, in theory, is a good idea but clubs all tend to over rate their own teams making the seeding even more in favor of larger clubs, even worse than the coaches poll in college football.

21forever..... Thanks for the info. That seems foolish to me. There has been so so so many changes and now the seeding and brackets matter so much. I hope they know more about these teams than I do!! Are most of the groups going to be 3 teams? So we paid $850 for 2 games? Please tell me that I'm missing something??
