CCSAI U11 Challenge Cup - Page 2 Empty Re: CCSAI U11 Challenge Cup

Ilik2wach wrote:When and why did the powers that be (sometimes referred to as the scheduling idiots) "un-learn" how to correctly schedule multiple 3-team brackets (seems like it's been about 2 - 3 years now)? It used to be that there would be complete cross-bracket play so that all 3 teams from one bracket played all 3 teams from the other bracket, therefore, playing a similar strength of schedule. Now, they schedule it where a team plays the two teams in their own bracket and then another team from the other bracket (cross-bracket), creating an imbalance and advantage/disadvantage depending upon what team is played from the other bracket. Never have understood why this change was made in scheduling.

Generally I would agree that this imbalance seems to have taken place with cross brackets not playing cross brackets like they used to. However, in this one occasion I think they did that purposefully to cover the top 2 making it out of the bracket. You have the 1st and 3rd place team in Plano 1 ( Both top 5 teams in my opinion) in the same bracket playing Amarillo. Then in the other 3 team bracket you have Manchester, Dallas Texans and Meja Williams in that seeding order. They ( powers that B want the top 2 to have an easier time and their method accomplishes that in theory. In my opinion to do it right those two ( FCP and Andro) should have been in different brackets but seeing 27 isn't a good number they had to put brackets together some way to increase odds of the top two seeds. If you did cross brackets you technically wouldn't control your own destiny. ( Let's say all teams from one bracket one all three matches on the other side) It wouldn't be solved on the field. Manchester, Dallas Texans and Meja all have games against each other to decide which team will be the top two. Meja got hosed a little having to face FCP but they have the ability to earn it on the field by playing well as does Dallas Texans and Manchester. It's going to be an interesting first week.

That appears to be what they did - sort of. So, you can snake the grid. Of course, in the 4th pass, you skip over E and F. Then, they added AYSES to G rather than A.

Maybe. Then again, they may have focused on the first 13 or so and then filled in others. Who knows. I'd like to hear it from them, especially as to the two that I mentioned. Would have been much easier to just follow the season finish. The only debate would be where to put the APL teams of equal finish place as PPL. Here is how I think they did it in order:

Cyclones
Solar
Chivas
Aztecas
Manchester
FC Prem
Arsenal
FCD Gold
DTX Red S
Andro Red
Azzurri
Odyssey
Cont
Mansfield
GSSC
Wizards
FCD Blue
Hurst U
Meja Will
Amarillo
LP Pais
TFC Blue
Meja Hoover
Barcelona
LP Shank
Andro
AYSES

CCSAI U11 Challenge Cup - Page 2 Empty Re: CCSAI U11 Challenge Cup

GDWilly wrote:Observations of early round results;

Bracket A

Mansfield Revolution (#6 API DI) defeats GSSC Thunder (#8 CCSAI DII) 1 - 0 to set up a Hatfield's vs. McCoy's match with Cyclones tomorrow. No love lost between these teams. Should be interesting.

Bracket B

Wizards (#9 CCSAI DII, 2-1-6 spring league season, rough showing at the Legends Invitational), gets a much needed 3 - 2 win over Continental FC (#6 PPL DI). Sets up a big match with league rival Solar Blue.

Bracket C

Ho hum

Bracket D

1 goal wins for top bracket seeds

Aztecas (#6 CCSAI DII, strong showing in spring CCSAI DII), 3 - 2 win over MEJA Hoover (#1 PPL DII).

Azzurri (#4 PPL DI, victories over Mexico FC & FC Premier in Carey Invitational), 1 - 0 win over Hurst United Black (#8 API DI)

Aztecas vs. Azzurri should be a great match

Bracket E

Manchester Red Devils (#7 CCSAI DII, 3-2-4 spring league season, no tournament play) gets a much needed 3-2 win over DTS Red (#3 API DI). DTS Red had a good showing in Legends Invitational. DTS in must win situation vs. Andromeda Red.

Manchester to face a desperate MEJA Williams (0 -1 loser to FC Premier). Potential trip up match for Manchester.

Bracket F

FC Premier (#1 PPL DI) 1 - 0 win over MEJA Williams (#10 PPL DI). Sets up a big match with league rival Andromeda Red (#3 PPL DI) tomorrow.

Andromeda faces off with a desperate DTS Red team in crossover match prior to FC Premier

Bracket G

Arsenal (#1 API DI) ties FCD Gold (#2 PPL DI) 2 - 2. FCD Gold wins 1 - 0 over low seed AYSES Black (#5 PPL DII). Like Arsenal's chances to advance.

CCSAI U11 Challenge Cup - Page 2 Empty Field conditions

Post by jltx1 5/25/2013, 3:35 pm

Just want to see if others thought the fields at UTD were in bad condition. The field we were on had huge areas of no grass and where there was some grass it causes the ball to jump all around by bouncing in holes. It made play difficult for both teams. The worst was in the middle of the field. I am hoping Richland is better.

Richland is in much better shape, some bare spots but level and plays better; #13 and #14 have ruts, but these are used for Academy and tournaments only. UTD #2 is a disaster... about destroyed my ankles there last weekend.

Lil one said UTD field had a lot of "bumps". Didn't get to step foot on Richland's fields today. Never left the parking lot - fields closed before our game. Which makes this whole scheduling mess even more of mess.

The format states that the top in each bracket is in, and the second in each bracket will play the next weekend for the final 2 spots. With Manchester, Forzi, DTX S Red, and Andro Red in E,F, there will be two teams getting knocked out who very likely would have made it through the weekend in other brackets. Tough draws.

I read it a little different. For U11 no one qualifies the first week. The top 2 in each bracket qualify. (The issue is that makes 14) so do they allow two wild cards. Because it looks like they want 4 groups of 4 for the following week with the top 2 getting in. I am a little confused on how 1st and 3rd in PPL (to me both top 5 teams of the 27 playing) ended up in the same bracket. However, looking at how they scheduled teams it should work out well for Bracket F. Bracket E is going to be a dog fight with one team getting kicked off the island. In looking at the way the brackets are set up and the matches are to be played I think they did a much better job of getting seeding and brackets right and the format then what happened in the summer. Now that all the hard work is done its time for the boys to play and handle their business.

8:00 AM kick for my boys to start it off against mmm. Are the soccer gods for real? 26 other teams and that's our first match what are the odds. (1/26 someone stuffed the ballot) It should be a wonderful match hopefully I am still saying the same thing next Monday.

Rule reads;

No teams qualify 1st weekend - top 2 in each to playoff 2x4 2x3
top 2 in each bracket in league from playoff (8 total)

IMHO that is 1st & 2nd in the 7 brackets advance to 2nd weekend where there will be 2 brackets of 4 teams and 2 brackets of 3 teams. The 3 team bracket will play a crossover.

Yes. The field conditions made ground passing, especially through the middle, very difficult. A ball would be rolling and then jump. Would seem to give an advantage to dump and chase teams.

CCSAI U11 Challenge Cup - Page 2 Empty Today's Matches

Post by GDWilly 5/26/2013, 7:07 am

Think it's safe to say that the rain messed up some of the drama. Some of the better match ups to day include;

Cyclones vs. Revolution
Aztecas vs. Azzurri
MEJA vs. DTS Red (loser is out)
FC Premier vs. Andromeda Red

A couple of others of interest;

Solar Blue vs. Continental
Chivas vs. Odyssey

CCSAI U11 Challenge Cup - Page 2 Empty Round 2

Post by GDWilly 5/27/2013, 7:32 am

Bracket A
Cyclones wins Mansfield bragging rites, punches ticket to 2nd round
GSSC Thunder must defeat Cyclones and likely needs a little help from Andromeda to advance

Bracket B

Solar Blue & Wizards advance. Teams face off for top bracket seed in one of the better matches of the day.

Bracket C

Odyssey earns a draw with Chivas, excellent chance of advancing with a win over Barcelona, a 3rd tie could mean elimination unless Chivas shuts out FCD Blue
Chivas vs. FCD Blue loser is most likely eliminated, should be a interesting match

Bracket D

Azzurri upsets Aztecas 1 - 0, breathes life into MEJA Hoover's chances
Bracket remains wide open
Aztecas must defeat Hurst United (loser of 2 1-goal matches) and have Azzurri (winner of 2, 1-0 matches) defeat or tie MEJA Hoover to guarantee 2nd round

Bracket E

Manchester Red Devils advances to 2nd round. Tie vs. goalless MEJA Williams secures top bracket seed.
DTS RED punches ticket to 2nd round. Must defeat Andromeda Red and have help from MEJA Williams to finish in top position. If Andro wins, DTS Red is only team to advance with 2 loses.

Bracket F

Andromeda Red avenges loses in PPL and Carey Invitational and wins 2 - 0 over FC Premier. Claims top bracket spot with a match in hand.
FC Premier will be a dangerous 2 seed in 2nd round

Bracket G

FCD Gold advances to 2nd round
Arsenal squares off with TFC for final spot, needs tie or win to advance, claims top bracket seed with 9 point win

CCSAI U11 Challenge Cup - Page 2 Empty Round 1 Results

Post by GDWilly 5/28/2013, 5:42 am

Round 1 observations;

Solar, Azzurri, & Manchester Red Devils win bracket going undefeated. FCD Blue, Andromeda Red, & Arsenal win bracket with 1 tie. FCD Gold is bracket runner up with 1 tie. Cyclones bracket winner with 1 loss. Believe those should be the 8 - 1 & 2 seeds.

Chivas & DTS Red are bracket runner up with 1-1-1 record, believe those should be the last 2 seeds.

Surprise teams for round 1 are bracket A runner up Mansfield Revolution (#6 API DI) & bracket C winner FCD Blue (#7 PPL DI).

GSSC Thunder only returning CCSAI team that did not advance and only team to go 2 - 1 & not advance.

Breakdown of teams that advanced to 2nd round by league;

CCSAI - 6
PPL - 5
API - 3

Curious how CCSAI will seed 2nd round.

Going to be a dog fight to get in.

The way I see it is much like Round 1 just less teams starting. We simply have 4 brackets with 3 and 4 teams for total of 14 teams. Brackets of 3 would play a crossover from other bracket of 3. Top 2 from each bracket qualify which is 8 of 14 teams.

CCSAI U11 Challenge Cup - Page 2 Empty U11 Round 2

Post by GDWilly 5/30/2013, 5:51 am

Interesting seed

Bracket A
3 returning CCSAI DII teams guarantees that at least 1 is eliminated
Bracket winner Cyclones, 1 loss in round 1, & 3 runner-ups, Chivas & DTS Red 1-1-1 in round 1

Bracket B

3 more returning CCSAI DII teams guarantees that at least 1 is eliminated
2 undefeated bracket winners from round 1 (Solar & Manchester Red Devils) plus Aztecas who played well in spring CCSAI DII & PPL DI champion FC Premier
Looks like the group of death

Bracket C
All PPL bracket insures a PPL team is in. Teams finished 2nd, 3rd, & 7th in league play.
2 bracket winners, FCD Blue & Andromeda, both had 1 tie in round 1.
Seeds are 1, 3, & 5 in group of 6. 1 plays 6, 3 plays 4, & 5 plays 2 in crossover match.

Bracket D
2 API & 1 PPL team insure new team is in
2 bracket winners Azzurri, undefeated in round 1 & Arsenal, 1 tie in round 1, Seeds are 2, 4, & 6 in group of 6

Going to be a great weekend of play

CCSAI U11 Challenge Cup - Page 2 Empty Round 2 Re-seed

Post by GDWilly 5/31/2013, 5:25 am

Looks like CCSAI shuffled the seedings. Think this is a better distribution. Believe playing the crossover in the top two brackets, same as in August, would make better sense. Top two brackets, 4 of 8 are in, bottom 2 brackets 4 of 6 are in. Odds of getting in are better in crossover bracket.

Bracket A
001) CYCLONES FC CYCLONES 02B, 2-0-1 round 1, bracket winner
002) ARSENAL SC 02B, 3-1-0 round 1, bracket winner
003) WIZARDS 02, 2-0-1 round 1
004) FC PREMIER 02B FORZI 2-0-1 round 1

Bracket B
001) SOLAR CHELSEA SOLAR '02 BLUE, 3-0-0, round 1, bracket winner
002) ANDROMEDA FC 02B RED, 2-1-0 round 1, bracket winner
003) SUPERIOR SC AZTECAS 02B, 2-0-1 round 1
004) DALLAS TEXANS 02B RED STH, 1-1-1 round 1

Bracket C
001) FC DALLAS YOUTH 02B BLUE, 2-1-0 round 1, bracket winner, plays 6th seed in crossover
003) MANCHESTER RED DEVILS 02, 3-0-0 round 1, bracket winner, plays 4th seed in crossover
005) FC DALLAS 02 BOYS GOLD, 3-1-0 round 1, plays 2nd seed in crossover

Don't get seeding FCD ahead of Manchester Red Devils

Bracket D
002) AZZURRI 02, 3-0-0 round 1, bracket winner
004) CHIVAS USA F.C. CHIVAS USA 02B, 1-1-1 round 1
006) MANSFIELD REVOLUTION 02 BOYS, 2-0-1 round 1

Don't get seeding FCD ahead of Manchester Red Devils

I think seeding FCD Blue first makes even less sense. Should be a good weekend of games, regardless.

FCD Blue won their bracket last weekend so IMHO, they deserve a decent seed. Watched the 2nd half vs. Manchester Red Devils today. Score was 1 - 0 Manchester at half, FCD Blue took the lead with the wind at their back 2 - 1 but Manchester came back to earn a 2 - 2 tie.
