Regionals
You can take it to the bank that it will be Marcus vs Coppell in the Regional Final, proving up that 5-5A was the toughest district this year. Good luck to all the boys still playing.

Favorites, yes, but I wouldn't go to that bank just yet. Carroll has tormented Marcus in the playoffs in the last couple of years, and Coppell doesn't seem to be quite right lately. Central is a good defensive squad and I would expect both contests to be tight.
That being said, clearly 5-5A was the strongest regular season district. 4-5A is even with them right now in the post season (2 teams still standing).

So you have seen the other teams or are you just being a cynic? I will counter with a guarantee that whomever gets out of Region 1 wins it all, so there!

Re: HS Playoffs
So if keller central wins Region 1, they'll win state? And I say that none of these teams are going to win because they don't have any more academy players. The other high schools don't seem affected because there are no academy teams in those regions. Last year neither 4A or 5A were won by any north texas high school.

I have no idea about strengths of other teams in other regions, but, Houston Area has 3 Academy teams, Austin and San Antonio have 1 each

Academy players are not allowed to play HS soccer. The competition is tight and you will see different styles of play. Lets see which one prevails in region 1.Catrachito19 wrote:So if keller central wins Region 1, they'll win state? Re: HS Playoffs
I agree with ntxsoccerdad, the Houston, Austin and San Antonio markets also have Academy programs, so their HS programs apply to your logic.
That said, NTX has the strongest showing in Region 1 in the last 13 years. That's impressive!
Chito has proven to be a cynic without adding value to the conversation.

Well, well…..Some of those schools have former Academy players who chose to not to play Academy their senior yr. This seems to be a trend.

Re: HS Playoffs
Last year Mission Sharyland wasn't affected by the new rule and they ended up winning the 5A State . My point is that North Texas teams have gotten weaker due to this new rule.finish1 wrote:I agree with ntxsoccerdad, the Houston, Austin and San Antonio markets also have Academy programs, so their HS programs apply to your logic.

Some somehow get around it, either ignoring the rule or being given an exemption somehow. I know that this preseason we played a team that had a DA player. He was on the field when we scrimmaged the DA team and still oon the roster after the HS game.

Re: HS Playoffs
Classic League has also been impacted by PA and DA. We can argue that only a handful of players are good enough to call the best and everyone else is just average. That's a very broad stroke and not necessarily true.
There are HS players in NTX right now who can and could play DA, but for whatever reason, they choose not to. Unlike my friend Omega Striker, I don't believe HS soccer is, by definition, a bunch of rec kids with a sprinkling of CL players. I believe there is still a lot of soccer talent playing HS.
Plus, HS players get their picture in the Dallas Morning News. Did you see the outstanding Keeper save yesterday? What about today's picture of the player from Boyd who is their all-time leading scorer? Don't dismiss the value of HS sports or say that it will never by the same since the DA kids left...

Re: HS Playoffs
Watched both Region 1 5A semifinals. Great atmosphere and some very good soccer. Southlake was down early and often but kept battling back. Kudos to those boys for not giving up. Marcus was good as usual and had too much.
In game 2 Coppell was dominent. Probably had 70-75% possession and created tons of chances. Central had one goal disallowed due to offsides but other than that didn't really threaten. Should be an awesome final tomorrow!!

Three years in a row McKinney Boyd plays in regionals making it to quarterfinals or higher good luck tomorrow. Are there any other Texas 5A high schools who also have made it this far the last three years in a row don't know other regions well.

Looks like all those predictions of an early Southlake exit were a bit premature.
Hmmmm. They barely got by...that being said...they did it with 10 players.
Looks like they continue to "just get by". Thankfully, those are still W's.
2-1 over EP Montwood today.
Looks like 'those W's' ran out. Getting by can only take you so far....

Deer Park and i think they've hosted the Regionals for a few years.
